Svend J. Beck - The father of George A Beck, 101 Grandm executive vice-president of the WA Sheaffer Pen Co., died at 10:10 am today in the Burlington Hospital.
He was Svend J. Beck, 84, who had lived with his son, George, and a daughter, Mrs. EW Sodeberg, La Grange, Ill., during recent years.
Beck was born in Esbjerg, Denmark, May 16, 1870. He came to the United States a the age of 18 and lived in Burlington until 1900. He also lived in Monmouth, Ill., Davenport, Iowa, and Fort Madison.
He was connected with the CB & Q railroad shops in Burlington and later worked for the arsenal at Rock Island, Ill. He was a machinist for the Sheaffer Pen Co. until he retired in 1945.
Beck married Bertha L Brandenberg May 4, 1893, in Burlington. She died March 1937.
Beck was a member of the St. John’s Evangelical and Reformed church at Fort Madison.
Besides his son and daughter, Beck is survived by four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. He was the last of a family of six.
Funeral services were held in Ft. Madison.
