Obituary
Manfred A. Nordstrom, 89, of Burlngton, died at 2:05 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 5, 2000, at University Hospitals in Iowa City. Born Aug. 27, 1911, in Mediapolis, he was the son of Albert Edward and Wilhomina Carolina Peterson Nordstrom. He married Patricia Churchill Blaul on Aug. 29, 1950. Mr. Nordstrom was a 1927 graduate of Mediapolis High School and attended Fort Madison Business College for one year. He was a World War II Navy veteran serving on the USS The Sullivans, DD-537, as a chief gunner's mate in the Pacific Theater. He worked for Chittenden & Eastman for 50 years, serving as president for 25 years, and was director of Farmers & Merchants Bank in Burlington for 35 years. He was a member of Christ Episcopal Church, Burlington Golf Club, Crystal Lake Club, BPOE 84, and the Historical Society. Survivors include one daughter, Carolyn Rebecca Nordstrom of Notre Dame, Ind.; one stepson, Arthur C. "Meter" Blaul of Breckenridge, Colo.; and two step-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers, and two sisters. Friends may call after 8 a.m. Friday in Prugh's Chapel. The funeral for Mr. Nordstrom will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Christ Episcopal Church, with the Rev. Canon Patrick Genereux officiating. Burial will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery. Memorials have been established for Christ Episcopal Church and Des Moines County Historical Society.
