Helen W. Bechtel, 86, of Burlington, died Monday, 1:35 a.m. August 14, 2017 at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City.
Born July 4, 1931 in Burlington, she was the daughter of Edward and Helen Loeffers. She married Dale George Lee in 1947, they later divorced. She then married Freddie L. Bechtel Sr. on December 11, 1955 in Kirksville, MO. He died February 12, 2009.
Helen worked as a cashier for most of her life. She worked in sales for Archway Cookies, Sears and Montgomery Ward. She worked as an office administrator at Burlington Roofing, at the Burlington Hospital as a nurse's aide and I.A.A.P.
She was of the Lutheran faith. She was a wonderful homemaker and wonderful cook. She enjoyed crafts and sewing. She loved listening to music, dancing and telling stories.
Survivors include two sons; Freddie L. "Fred" Bechtel Jr. of Burlington and Ron Lee of West Burlington; five grandchildren; four great grandchildren and one great-great granddaughter; nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, son Tom Lee, four sisters and one brother.
A private family graveside service and inurnment will be held at Aspen Grove Cemetery. A memorial has been established for Shriner's Crippled Children's Hospital. According to her wishes, cremation has been entrusted to Lunning Chapel.
