Obituary
John J. Nichols, 73, of Burlington, died at 2:20 p.m. Wednesday, October 14, 1998, in Burlington. Born April 7, 1925, in Ottumwa, he was the son of John and Rosemary Statton Nichols. He married Leola "Lee" Cain on September 22, 1946, in Kahoka, MO. Mr. Nichols was a U.S. Navy veteran. He retired from Midwest Biscuit Co., and previously had worked at Leopolds and Campbell Chain. He was of the Methodist faith, and a lifetime member of Disabled American Veterans. Survivors include his wife; four daughters, Connie Raschendorfer and Patricia Anderson, both of Burlington, Sharon Couchman of Columbus Junction, and Pamela Hostetter of Milan, MO; two sons, John Nichols of Loveland, Colo., and Jim Nichols of El Monte, Calif.; one brother, Charles Henderson of Ottumwa; seven grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and three brothers. The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. today at the First Methodist Church. The funeral for Mr. Nichols will be at 1:30 p.m. Saturday in Prugh's Chapel, with the Rev. David Rogula officiating. Burial will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery, with military honors conducted by VFW Post 10102. A memorial has been established.
