Mr. Jack Walter Nichols Sr., 82, of Burlington died at 3:35 p.m. Tuesday, September 29, 2015, at Great River Hospice House in West Burlington.
Born December 16, 1932 in Spaulding, Iowa, he was the son of James and Elsie (Johnson) Nichols Sr. On March 31, 1956 he married Sharon McMahon in Kahoka, Missouri.
Mr. Nichols was a Navy veteran of the Korean War. He worked in masonry construction for John Blow and Hoschek Construction for over 40 years as a bricklayer.
He enjoyed fishing, hunting, camping and loved going to the casino.
Survivors include his wife of 59 years, Sharon Nichols of Burlington; four children, Jack Nichols Jr. and Cheryl Longshore both of Burlington; Dianne Carlson of Oakville and Timothy Nichols of Carman, Illinois; 11 grandchildren; several great grandchildren; two sisters, Joanne Day of Galesburg, Illinois and Joyce Malcom of Keithsburg, Illinois; three brothers, Darwin Nichols and Kenneth Nichols both of Burlington and Larry Nichols of Rialto, California and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one daughter, one son, one grandchild, one great grandchild, three sisters and three brothers.
The memorial funeral service for Mr. Nichols will be 2 p.m. Friday, October 2nd, at Lunning Chapel with the Rev. Dean Graber officiating. Inurnment will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery. Military Rites will be conducted by the Burlington Area Veterans Honor Guard.
