Margaret L. Nichols, 72, of Keokuk, Iowa, died at Lexington Square Nursing Home, Keokuk, Iowa, on Tuesday, February 11, 2014. Born on February 13, 1941 in Burlington, Iowa, she was the daughter of John K. and Merle I. Fidler Nichols Sr. Margaret graduated from Burlington High School with the class of 1959 and then graduated from Monmouth College. She was a teacher in the Burlington and Sperry School Systems. She was a member of Christ Episcopal Church. Margaret loved people and working with children. She was very creative. She enjoyed writing and sketching as well as painting. She was always thinking of ways she could help someone else. She also enjoyed playing games and reading. John Grisham was a favorite author of hers. Margaret had a wonderful sense of humor. She was concerned for those less fortunate, especially children without adequate nutrition. She is survived by two brothers, John K (Ruth) Nichols Jr. of Depoe Bay, Oregon and David B. Nichols of Bingen, Washington; one aunt, Jacqueline Fidler of Danville, California; cousins, Sara Nimrick of Stronghurst, Illinois, Brian Fidler of Lake Tahoe, California, Richard Smith of New Auburn, Wisconsin, Thomas Smith of Florida and numerous other cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents.Graveside committal services for Margaret Nichols will be held on Thursday, February 20, 2014 at 2:00 p.m. at Aspen Grove Cemetery, Burlington, Iowa. Rev. Patricia Cashman will officiate. A memorial has been established for the Salvation Army or a charity of your choice. Friends may gather at the Sunnyside entrance to the cemetery prior to the time of service. No formal visitation is planned.
