Mr. Terry Lee Heckenberg, 55, of Burlington died Thursday, August 2, 2012, at his home. Born August 12, 1956 in Burlington, he was the son of Phillip Joseph and Darlene Johnson Heckenberg. Mr. Heckenberg was a sanitary engineer for the City of Burlington and also worked for the Burlington Parks District.
He enjoyed deer hunting, fishing, reading westerns, watching John Wayne movies and loved watching his grandchildren's activities. Survivors include his mother and father, Darlene and Allen Newton of Burlington; three sons, Chad M. (LaToya) Heckenberg of Keokuk, Phillip E. Heckenberg and Adam L. (Christa) Heckenberg both of Burlington; the mother of his children, Joyce Benz; seven grandchildren; one sister, Susan "Sue" (Ken) Jarrett of West Burlington and brother, Bruce Heckenberg of Washington State. He was preceded in death by his father, Phillip Heckenberg and his grandparents. Friends may call after 8:00 a.m. Tuesday, August 7th, in Lunning Chapel where the family will receive friends from 9:00 until 10:30 a.m.
The memorial funeral service for Mr. Heckenberg will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, August 7th, in Lunning Chapel. The Rev. David Plooster will officiate. Inurnment will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery. A memorial has been established in Terry's memory.
