Roger Newbold, 78, of Burlington, died at 8:50 AM, Thursday, June 12, 2014, at the Great River Hospice House in West Burlington.
Born August 31, 1935, in Hillsboro, IA, he was the son of Robert and Gertrude Hixson Newbold. On June 13, 1954, he married Gayle Joan Moffett in Hillsboro.
Roger retired from J.I. Case Corporation in 1992, where he had worked for 21 years. He also owned the Dairy Queen in Mt. Pleasant for 17 years. In his early years he worked at Boeing Aircraft in Seattle, Washington.
He was a 1953 graduate of Hillsboro High School.
He was a member of First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ). He held a private pilot's license and flew Cessna Aircraft. He was an avid Seattle Seahawks and Pittsburgh Pirates fan. He enjoyed golfing, traveling, baseball, and especially watching his grandchildren play baseball.
Survivors include his wife, Joan of Burlington; one daughter, Pamala (Steve) Gerhardt of Burlington; one son, Scot Newbold; two grandsons, Tod (Tracy) Gerhardt of Burlington and Matt Gerhardt of Pittsburgh, PA; three great-grandchildren, Connor, Carter, and Addison Gerhardt; one sister-in-law, Bev (Jerry) Sloan of Eldon; three brother-in-laws, Mike (Dar) Moffett of Salem, Merritt (Dee) Moffett of Lowell, and Mark (Linda) Moffett of Mount Pleasant; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Robert and Tyler Newbold.
Visitation will be from 12:00 PM until 6:00 PM with the family to receive friends from 5:00 PM until 6:00 PM Monday, June 16, 2014, at Thielen Funeral Home.
The funeral service for Mr. Newbold will be 9:30 AM Tuesday, June 17, 2014, at Thielen Funeral Home with Reverend Dean Graber officiating. Burial will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established.
