Obituary
Andrew New, 87, of West Burlington, died Friday, Feb. 27, 1998, at Burlington Medical Center. Born Oct. 19, 1910, in Burlington, Mr. New was Abandoned at birth. He lived at Glenwood Hospital and School until the age of 48. In August, 1958, he moved to the Des Moines County Home, now known as Prairie Oak Residential Care Facility, in West Burlington. Mr. New worked at the home doing farm chores and working in the fields. He was an active participant in the Special Olympics, enjoyed bowling and all community outings. He attended West Burlington Christian Church and often assisted with the cleaning of the church. he was a great story teller and told stories of his early years at the home. Survivors include many special friends. Open visitation will begin after 9:30 a.m. today in Prugh's Chapel. The funeral for Mr. New will be at 1:30 p.m. at West Burlington Christian Church, with the Rev. Jack Howard officiating., Burial will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery. A memorial has been established.
