Vivian Gladys Beard, 92, of Burlington, died at 10:10 am Tuesday, March 5, 2002, at her home.
Born Sept. 20, 1909, in West Des Moines, she was the daughter of Clarence Theodore and Edna L. Brown Good. She married Bert Rutherford on June 15, 1929. She later married Ralph V. Beard on Dec. 2, 1945, in West Des Moines. He died Feb. 27, 1957,
Mrs. Beard was a graduate of Valley Junction High School and attended Drake University, She was a homemaker.
She was a member of First Congregational Church of Burlington, where she held nearly every office and taught confirmation and Bible classes. She also was a member of King’s Daughters, TTT, and the Republican and was a 4-H leader. She enjoyed knitting, quilting, counted cross-stitch, and needlepoint. She loved music and played the piano and organ.
Survivors include one daughter, Ethel Mae Laskey of Fargo, N.D.; four grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and one sister Frieda Belle Curtis of Yuma, Ariz.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her sisters.
The funeral service for Mrs. Vivian Gladys Beard, 92, who died Tuesday, March 5, 2002, will be Friday, March 8th, at 1:30 PM in Friday Congregational Church. Interment will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery.
Reverand Cynthia Bacon will officiate. Friends may call after 2:00 PM Thursday, March 7th in Lunning chapel, where the family will receive friends from 6:30- 8:00 PM.
