Obituary
Alice Clark Naylor, 88, passed away unexpectedly on December 29, 2015 in Iowa City, Iowa surrounded by her loving family. Alice was born on August 7, 1927 in Scotch Grove, Iowa, the daughter of William Bert and Ella Loomis Clark and grew up on the family farm. She graduated from Monticello High School in 1945 and Coe College in 1948.
She married her childhood sweetheart, Jack, on September 4, 1947. They moved to Burlington in 1957. Alice was a wonderful wife for 68 years during which she and Jack had four daughters. From 1971-1973 she taught school at North Hill Elementary. Jack and Alice traveled around the country in their motor home.
Alice was a member of First Presbyterian Church where she served as Elder, Deacon, and Sunday school teacher. Jack and Alice were active in Presbyterian Mariners where they served as family camp youth directors and camp directors and were appointed to the National Family Camp Commission. They also served in different capacities in the Presbytery and Synod of the Presbyterian Church USA.
Alice was a member of Chapter HU of PEO where she served as President, Chaplin, and Recording Secretary. Presbyterian Women, Book Club and playing bridge were three of her favorite pastimes. Watching football and basketball were important to her, especially the Green Bay Packers. Alice loved her new home at Sunnybrook.
Alice is survived by her husband and four daughters: Janice (Peter) Allan of Green Bay, WI; Patricia (Bill) Larsen of Green Bay, WI; Debra (Andrew) Opiekun of Burlington, Iowa; and Alicia (Jerry) Goehring of Madison, Wisconsin. She is further survived by her sister, Ruth Grom, Rock Valley, Iowa. She was a loving grandmother to seven grandchildren: Steven (Dagmara), Heather (Peter), Amy, Jaclyn (Brandon), Tim, Joanna (Brock), and Brian and eight great grandchildren: Elizabeth, Kalina, Samantha, Stefan, Zachary, Ella, Callie and Emry.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. Monday, January 4th, at Lunning Chapel.
The memorial funeral service for Mrs. Naylor will be 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, January 5th, at First Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Deb Kinney officiating. Private inurnment will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery.
