Janet Lois Boyd, 82, of Burlington, died at 1:45 p.m. Friday, March 9, 2007, at the Great River Medical Center Klein Center. Born July 31, 1924, in Burlington, she was the daughter of David and Esther Hemmye Taeger. On Oct. 16, 1947, she married Cloice B. Boyd Chicago. He died Dec. 25, 1969. She was chief operator/manager of the Fort Madison Office of Northwestern Bell/AT&T for 35 years. She retired in 1981. She was a member of First United Methodist Church. She belonged to Telephone Pioneers and First Methodist Church Auxiliary. She was an avid fisherman, an expert gardener and loved the out of doors. Survivors include three sons, Michael Boyd and Dan Boyd, both of Burlington and Dennis Boyd of Boise, Idaho; one daughter, Susan Boyd of West Burlington; three grandchildren; four stepgrandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; one brother, Melbourne Taeger of Anaheim, Calif; one sister, Bonnie Riley of New London; nieces and nephews. Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by parents, two sisters and one brother. Visitation will begin at 8 a.m. Tuesday at Hass-Thielen Funeral Home where family will be present from 6 until 8 p.m. The funeral for Mrs. Boyd will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday in the Chapel of Hass-Thielen Funeral Home with the Rev. Dennis Tevis officiating. Interment will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery. A memorial has been established for First United Methodist Church and Great River Hospice.
