Kay Marie Mullahy, 63, of Burlington, died at 9:38 PM Monday, June 26, 2017, at the Great River Hospice House.
She was born September 2, 1953, in Alton, IL. On November 24, 1973, she married Patrick Mullahy in Burlington.
Kay was a registered nurse at the Burlington Medical Center and Great River Medical Center for 38 years. She retired in 2014 and continued to volunteer at Great River Medical Center after her retirement.
She was a 1972 graduate of Notre Dame High School. She graduated from SCC's registered nursing program in 1976 and from Iowa Wesleyan College with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing in 1997.
She was a member of Divine Mercy Parish. Kay loved the Lord Jesus. Her family meant the world to her. She loved being a wife, mother and grandmother. She was a dedicated nurse for 38 years and advocated for her patients to ensure they received the best care. She enjoyed country and ballroom dancing, growing flowers and gardening, watching the birds at her bird feeders, and traveling.
Survivors include her husband; her mother, Jean McKinney of West Burlington; one daughter, Teresa (John) Van Utrecht of Ottumwa; one son, Matthew (Sara) Mullahy of Bloomfield; five grandchildren, Elizabeth & Caroline Van Utrecht, Madeline, Lydia & Natalie Mullahy; and one sister, Ruth (Roger) Tapke of South Windsor, CT.
Visitation will be from noon until 7:00 PM with the family to receive friends from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM Thursday, June 29, 2017, at SS. Mary and Patrick Catholic Church, West Burlington.
The Funeral Mass of the Resurrection for Mrs. Mullahy will be 10:00 AM Friday, June 30, 2017, at SS. Mary and Patrick Catholic Church, West Burlington with Rev. Father Bill Roush as the Celebrant. Music will be provided by the Des Moines County Resurrection Choir. Burial will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery. A time of food and fellowship will be held in the St. Mary's Parish Center following the burial.
A memorial has been established for Notre Dame High School.
