Mr. Harold C. Morawitz, 99, of Burlington died at 12:40 A.M. Wednesday, February 22, 2017, at Blair House in Burlington.
Born August 25, 1917 in Hannibal, Missouri, he was the son of Arlie "Butch" and Minnie (Schambacher) Morawitz. On August 6, 1951 he married Bettie Jane Lowe in Eureka Springs, Arkansas. She preceded him in death on September 2, 2012.
Mr. Morawitz was a Hannibal High School graduate. He was an Army veteran of World War II serving with the 720th Transportation Corps in North Africa, Sicily, Italy, and Germany.
Mr. Morawitz was a salesman for Skerik Auto Parts for 25 years. He was a past member of Burlington Baseball Association, American Little League, and Elks, Moose, and Eagles Lodges. He loved his dogs, especially Sparky and was an avid St. Louis Cardinals fan.
Survivors include two daughters, Beverly (Les) Heath of Webb City, Missouri and Joyce (Kenny) Johnson of Burlington; two sons, Roy "Skip" (Elora) Morawitz of Plattsmouth, Nebraska and Robert "Bob" (Beverly Gobble) Morawitz of Fort Madison; seven grandchildren, Brian Johnson of Burlington, Michael Johnson of Overland Park, Kansas, Eric Brown of Nashville, Tennessee, Kim Fitterling of St. Charles, Missouri, Lynda Verela of San Antonio, Texas, Shelley Helms of Aztec, New Mexico and Chuck Morawitz of Phoenix, Arizona ; several great grandchildren; several step grandchildren and step great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife and two sisters, Vivian and Helen.
The family will receive friends from 5:30 until 7 p.m. Friday, February 24th, at Lunning Chapel.
The funeral service for Mr. Morawitz will be 10 a.m. Saturday, February 25th, at Lunning Chapel. Pastor Aloshis Jefferson will officiate. The Burlington Area Veterans Honor Guard will conduct military rites. Interment will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery.
A memorial has been established for Des Moines County Humane Society.
