Bettie Jane Morawitz, 91, of Burlington, died at 3:00 p.m. Sunday, September 2, 2012, at Blair House Nursing and Rehabilitation. Born August 21, 1921 in Brazil, Iowa, she was the daughter of Roy and Golda (Dooley) Lowe. She was a 1938 graduate of Centerville High School. She married Frank Temple in 1939, they later divorced. She then married Harold Morawitz on August 6, 1951 in Eureka Springs, Arkansas. Bettie worked as a bookkeeper for Chanen Auto Supply and later as John Winegard's personal bookkeeper. She enjoyed bowling, playing BINGO and watching sports on TV. She loved spending time with her family. Survivors include her husband, Harold Morawitz of Burlington; four children, Beverly (Les) Heath of Webb City, MO, Joyce (Kenny) Johnson of Burlington, Roy "Skip" (Elora) Morawitz of Plattsmouth, NE, and Robert "Bob" (Beverly Gobble) Morawitz of Fort Madison; seven grandchildren; several step grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; several step great-grandchildren; one sister, Mary DeKalb of Joplin, MO; one niece and two nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents. The funeral service for Mrs. Morawitz will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday, September 6th, at First Church of the Nazarene of Burlington. Mr. Les Heath will officiate. Interment will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery. Visitation will be Wednesday, September 5th, from 5:30 until 7:30 p. m. at the First Church of the Nazarene where the family will receive friends. A memorial has been established for the Des Moines County Humane Society.
