Ella M. Mixer, 87, of Burlington, died Sunday, July 22, 2007, at Great River Klein Center. Born Feb. 12, 1920, in Clark County, Mo., she was the daughter of Clarence and Daisy Peacock Poe. On March 2, 1947, she married Ray D. Mixer in Wever. Mrs. Mixer was retired from Sheaffer Pen Co. She was a 1937 graduate of Denmark High School. She was a charter member of Church of God in Fort Madison and a former member of the Newberry Senior Center in Fort Madison. She enjoyed reading the Bible, embroidery, quilting, gardening, traveling, camping and cooking. Survivors include her husband, Ray, of Burlington; one daughter, Karen M. Watterson of Burlington; one son, Stephen R. Mixer of Burlington; six grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; four sisters, Opal Lodwick of Fort Madison, Marjorie MacMeekin of Orangevale, Calif., Mary Tortat of Stockport and Charlotte Logas of Primrose and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, two stepmothers, Emma Crosley Poe and Ethel Hassenclever Poe, one brother and two nephews. Visitation will be from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Hass Thielen Funeral Home in Burlington, where the family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. The funeral for Mrs. Mixer will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Hass Thielen Funeral Home Chapel, with the Rev. Leo Hanks officiating. Burial will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery in Burlington. A memorial has been established for Great River Hospice.
