Ray D. Mixer, 84, of Burlington, died at 8:45 p.m. Friday, May 21, 2010, at the Great River Medical Center-Klein Center in Burlington. Born August 13, 1925, in Adams County, IL, he was the son of Albert and Vera Brown Mixer. On March 2, 1947, he married Ella Marie Poe in Wever. She died July 22, 2007. The Rev. Mixer worked 32 ½ years at Du Pont in Fort Madison. He was an ordained minister for the Church of God (IHP), serving in Iowa and Missouri. He was an Army Air Force veteran, serving during World War II. He was a member of the Church of God in Fort Madison, and a lifetime member of the Fort Madison VFW. He was an avid gardener, and enjoyed growing roses. He enjoyed word search puzzles, fishing, hunting, traveling, collecting clocks, eating and sharing popcorn. Survivors include one daughter, Karen M. Watterson of Burlington, and one son, Stephen R. Mixer of Burlington; six grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, his parents, two brothers, and one sister. Visitation will be from noon until 7 p.m., with the family to receive friends from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Thursday at the Hass-Thielen Funeral Home. The funeral for the Rev. Mixer will be 10 a.m. Friday at the Hass-Thielen Funeral Home, with the Rev. Tyrone Henderson officiating. Burial will follow in Aspen Grove Cemetery, with full military honors rendered by the Burlington Area Veterans Honor Guard. A memorial has been established for Great River Hospice.
