Obituary
Sondra “Sue” Rutherford was born in Burlington, Iowa on June 2, 1939. She left this world on December 11, 2015.
A consummate mother and homemaker, Sue was an excellent cook and enjoyed preparing meals for her family. She also enjoyed gardening, sewing, canning and Girl Scouts. Over the years she collected a large library of cookbooks, her 30 year Girl Scout pin, and numerous empty canning jars. She also loved to watch HGTV and cooking channels.
Sue was an only child and was predeceased by her loving mother, Lorraine Adams Miller, and her father, Ralph Stein. Preceding her in death also, the father of her children, Jerry Rutherford. She was also predeceased by two of her best friends Sharon Neff-Wixom and Sandy Silver-Sharp. Sue is survived by Jacob “Randy” Miller, her stepfather who raised her. Her daughters, SuDean Rutherford, Terri Rutherford, partner Karen Pedersen, Lisa Rutherford Bertrand, son-in law Kyle Bertrand, and son, Jerry Rutherford as well as her grandsons, Benjamin Bertrand, Kaleb Bertrand, Ryan Rutherford, her great granddaughter Grayson Bertrand, and the delight of her life, her granddaughter Addison Rutherford, and Addison’s mother and brother Jen Davis and Austin Davis. Along with the above, she is survived by her cousins, Karen Martin, who was like a younger sister to her, and her namesake Connie Sue Stewart, who lovingly cared for her in her last years of life, and her dearest friend, Linda Swozil-Johnson.
It would be remiss not to mention those who were such a blessing to her in her later years; her dear friend Sharon’s daughters, Denine Wixom Johnson, and Denise Wixom Carle. Her best friend Linda Johnson’s daughters, Shelly Ahner and Angie Johnson, Carrie Berry, and Donnie Bergquist who took her to countless Dr.s appointments and was always there to lend a hand. The family gives them, Great River Hospice, and everyone else who was part of Sue’s life their greatest gratitude.
The family will celebrate her life in the spring at her favorite park. In lieu of flowers, please feed the cardinals, plant a flower, or donate to the Iowa Golden Retriever Rescue in memory of Sue and her much loved dogs Pooh-Bear and Jasmine, or any local organizations that benefit canines.
