Obituary
Lela May Miller, 89, of Burlington died at 8:00 a.m. Wednesday, May 9, 2007, at Donnellson Health Center in Donnellson. Born April 12, 1918, in Terre Haute, Il., she was the daughter of Charles E. and Loda May Rigby Sliger. In1939, she married George Schmeiser. He died in August of 1948. On April 3, 1954, she married Fred K Miller in Kahoka, Mo. She attended a county school in Gulfport, Il. She moved to Burlington in 1936. She worked at Iowa Ordnance Plant for 31 years, retiring in 1982. She was a member of First United Methodist Church, Eagles Auxiliary and Union 1010 at the Ordnance Plant. She enjoyed being a homemaker, bowling and boating onthe Mississippi River. Survivors include her husband; one daughter, Susan Kenney of Burlington; one son, Stephen Schmeiser of Asheville, NC.; three grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. Besides her first husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, one son, two sisters and four brothers. Visitation will be from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Friday in Lunning Chapel where family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. The funeral for Mrs. Miller will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday in Lunning Chapel with the Rev. Dennis Tevis officiating. Interment will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery. Memorials have been established for Hospice of Central Iowa and the American Cancer Society.
