Betty Mae Mickael, 89, formerly of Burlington, died at Morning Care Center, Morning Sun, Iowa early Friday morning, June 7, 2013.
Born on May 20, 1924 in Madison, South Dakota, she was the daughter of Frank and Agnes Woods Winters.
Betty graduated from Dakota State University, Madison, South Dakota, in 1942 and received her Master's Degree from Northwestern University, Evanston, Illinois, in 1958. She taught school for 50 years, 28 of those years in Burlington. She was a teacher for Burlington School District in the 6th grade at Corse Elementary and Horace Mann Middle Schools. She was a member of BMC Auxiliary, National Education Association and the Iowa State Education Association. She loved to teach, dine at Scotties on Summer Street and spend time with her grandchildren. She was a member of Spring Grove Methodist Church.
She is survived by one son, Lee (Anita) Mickael of Burlington, Iowa; one sister, Ernestine Johnson of Madison, South Dakota; two granddaughters, Kelly and Megan.
She was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers, Vernon and Warren Winters.
Funeral services for Betty Mae Michael will be held on Thursday, June 20, 2013 at 10:00 am at Prugh's Chapel, Burlington, Iowa. Interment will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery, Burlington, Iowa.
The family will receive friends on Wednesday evening, June 19, 2013 from 5:00 until 6:00 pm at Prugh's Chapel. Friends may pay their respect any time from 8am until 5 pm on Wednesday.
A memorial has been established for her grandchildren's education.
