Margarette E. Mesecher, 85, of Burlington, died at 3:15 p.m. Friday, October 30, 2009, at Great River Klein Center in Burlington. Born June 4, 1924, in Fairfield, she was the daughter of George J. and Wilhelmina Margaret Vickers Shaw. On January 27, 1956, she married Wilbur E. "Gene" Mesecher in Burlington. Mrs. Mesecher was self-employed in the family heating and air conditioning business. She also worked at Iowa Army Ammunition Plant in Middletown for 15 years. She was a member of United Methodist Church in West Burlington. She was a member of D.A.R., National Huguenot Society, Continental Society Daughters of Indian Wars, Colonial Order of the Crown, World War II Memorial Society, and Sam's Camping Club. She was a Dame of the Magna Carta and a recipient of the Martha Washington Medal. Survivors include her husband; one son, George Herman Moehle of Burlington; one stepson, Alan Eugene Mesecher of Orange, Texas; two stepdaughters, Charlotte Jean Blanchard of Fort Edwards, N. Y., and Shirley Bodnar of Schuylerville, N. Y.; one brother, William Shaw of Burlington; one sister, Mary Bolander of Lebanon, MO; and several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, four brothers, and two sisters. The family will receive friends from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Wednesday at Prugh's Chapel in Burlington. The funeral for Mrs. Mesecher will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Prugh's Chapel, with the Rev. Jackie Bradford officiating. Burial will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery in Burlington. A memorial has been established.
