Kenneth Gale Meinsen, 95, of Burlington, died at 2:40 p.m. Friday, November 26, 2010, at Great River Medical Center's Klein Center in Burlington. Born December 27, 1914, in Burlington, he was the son of William Charles and Hulda Bonn Meinsen. On August 21, 1942, he married Mary Margaret Wooldridge in Los Angeles, Calif. She died on December 23, 2005. Mr. Meinsen worked as a buyer for Sutter Drug Co. He was a veteran of World War II. He was a handyman, and enjoyed mowing lawns and helping other people. He loved the river and his cabin on Otter Island. He enjoyed walking in the woods and hunting for wild berries, mushrooms, bittersweet, and wild asparagus. He also enjoyed his motorcycle and going for drives on country roads. He built wren houses, and fed cardinals, finches, and squirrels in the wintertime. He was a member of Zion United Church of Christ. Survivors include one daughter, Debra Johnson of Burlington; one son, Michael Gale Meinsen of Burlington; two granddaughters; three great-grandsons; and one great-granddaughter. He was preceded in death by his wife, parents, four brothers, and four sisters. Visitation will be from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Monday in Prugh's Chapel, where family will receive friends. The funeral service for Mr. Meinsen will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Prugh's Chapel, with the Rev. Dean Graber officiating. Burial with military rites will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery. Memorials have been established for the American Cancer Society and Disabled American Veterans.
