Services will be held at 2:30 pm Saturday at the First United Presbyterian church, Mediapolis, for Surrell S. Barton, 68, rural Mediapolis.
Mr. Barton died Thursday morning at his home. Burial will be in the Aspen Grove Cemetery, Burlington. Masonic rites will be conducted at 7:30 tonight at the Pierce Funeral Home, Morning Sun. Visitation will be from 7 to 8:30 tonight.
A son of Charles H. and Louise Kurx Barton, he was born May 18, 1904, at Roscoe, Iowa. He married Laura Smith on Jun 15, 1927.
Mr. Barton was a member of the First United Presbyterian church, Mediapolis. He was also a director of the soil conservation board, vice president of the Southeast Iowa Purebred Angus Assn, and a member of the Nationals and Iowa Livestock Feeder Associations, Farm Bureau and Progress Lodge No. 226, AF and AM, Mediapolis.
Surviving are his wife; one son, Jack at home; two daughters, Mrs. Eugene (LilyLou) Mitch of Portland, Ore., and Mrs. John (Becky) Vose of Mediapolis; one brother, Joe Barton, Davenport; four sisters, Louise of Mediapolis, Mrs. Dorothy Percy of Western Springs, Ill., Mrs. Judy Hess of Tomah, Wis., and Mrs. Margaret Timnick of East Lansing, Mich.; and three grandchildren.
