Thomas Schmidt Meck, 87, of Burlington, died Tuesday, September 15, 2009, at Blair House Nursing and Rehab in Burlington. Born October 27, 1921, in Burlington, he was the son of Thomas and Meta Schmidt Meck. On September 23, 1945, he married Eileen Frances Broeg. She died August 14, 2006. Mr. Meck worked as an electrician through IBEW Local Union 13, most recently with Frank Millard Co. He graduated from Burlington High School in 1939. He served in the Navy during World War II in the South Pacific. He was an active member of St. Luke United Church of Christ. Survivors include two daughters, Carolyn Fisher of Ankeny, and Jan Hankins of Cedar Falls; two sons, Doug Meck of Pella, and Bill Meck of rural Muscatine; one sister, Harriet Wootten of Chaska, Minn.; eight grandchildren; two step-grand- children; 12 great-grandchildren; one step-great-grandchild; nieces and nephews. Besides his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents, three sisters, and one brother. The family will receive friends from 3 to 4 p.m. Thursday at St. Luke United Church of Christ in Burlington. The body has been cremated. The memorial service for Mr. Meck will be at 4 p.m. Thursday at St. Luke United Church of Christ. Private family burial will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery in Burlington. A memorial has been established for St. Luke United Church of Christ. Condolences may be sent to the Meck Family at 308 Independence St., Pella, Iowa 50219.
