Eileen F. Meck, 81, of Burlington died Monday, August 14, 2006 at her residence. Born February 26, 1925 in Burlington, she was the daughter of Edward and Esther Peterson Broeg. On September 23, 1945, she married Thomas S. Meck in Burlington. Mrs. Meck was a 1942 graduate of Burlington High School. Over the years she was employed at Burlington Instrument Company and Lamb's Diner, with her last employment being at Champion Products Company where she was a printer. Mostly she was a homemaker and a great mom. She was an active member of St. Luke United Church of Christ, where she was a member of the Sarah Circle and Women's Fellowship. She also held various offices, was on the church council, sang in the church choir and took part in many activities of the Gleaners Class. Mrs. Meck also was a member of the Burlington Women's Bowlers Association, received the Merit Award in 1977 and was inducted into the Hall of Fame in 1988. She served as the city treasurer for four years, was a director for seven years and served on many committees. She was a member for many years of Flint Hills Ladies Golf League holding various offices, and enjoyed attending many invitationals each summer. She was also a member of the Eagles Auxiliary. She loved airplanes, took flying lessons, and was a member of the Civil Air Patrol before she married. On October 13, 2004 she took a plane ride around the city, which was a gift from her husband. Survivors include her husband of over 60 years, Thomas S. Meck of Burlington; two daughters, Carolyn Fisher of Des Moines, and Janet Hankins of Cedar Falls; two sons, Douglas Meck of Pella and William Meck of Muscatine; eight grandchildren; two step grandchildren; ten great grandchildren; one step great grandchild; a half brother, John Broeg of Victoria, Texas and many nieces, nephews and friends Beside her parents, one brother and two half brothers preceded her in death.
