Obituary

Lee Meck, 76, of Burlington, died at 5:46 PM Sunday, April 21, 2013, at the Great River Hospice House in West Burlington. Born January 19, 1937, in Burlington, he was the son of Harold and Edna Gulick Meck. On February 14, 1959, he married Bonnie Darlene Samuelson in Atalissa, IA. She died August 18, 2011. Lee worked for J.I. Case Company as a repairman for 30 years. He was a U.S. Army Veteran, serving during the Cold War. He was a member of First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ), Loyal Order of the Moose Lodge #579, and the American Legion. He was a family man and was very proud of his grandchildren. He loved going blackberry picking and mushroom hunting and enjoyed woodworking and NASCAR. Survivors include one son, Rickey (Kathy) Meck of Denmark; three grandchildren, Kyle Meck, Matthew Meck, and Shawna Sylvester; one great-grandson, Hunter Coakley; and numerous nieces and nephews. Besides his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents and three brothers. Visitation will be from 8:00 AM until 7:00 PM with the family to receive friends from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM Thursday, April 25, 2013 at Thielen Funeral Home. The funeral service for Mr. Meck will be 1:00 PM Friday, April 26, 2013, at Thielen Funeral Home with Pastor D. Dean Benton officiating. Burial will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery. Full military honors will be rendered by the Burlington Area Veterans Honor Guard. A time of food and fellowship will be held at First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) following the burial.
