Mr. Bill Duane McCannon, 80, of Burlington died at 9:15 a.m. Friday, June 1, 2012, at Great River Hospice House in West Burlington. Born March 6, 1932 in Burlington, he was the son of Walter F. and Edna P. Graham McCannon. On December 13, 1952 he married Arlene D. Peterson in Burlington. Mr. McCannon was a 1950 graduate of Burlington High School. He was an Army veteran. Bill was a route driver for Harry S. Flodin and then for Trausch Bakery until his retirement in 1988. After retirement he worked for Waterworks carwash. Mr. McCannon was an avid Cubs and Bears fan, enjoyed bird watching, and loved spending time with his children and grandchildren. Survivors include his wife of 59 years, Arlene McCannon of Burlington; his children, David (Cyndee) McCannon of Oquawka, Illinois, Linda (Steve) Watson of Lombard, Illinois and Michael (Cindy) McCannon of Payson, Arizona; five grandchildren; two step grandchildren and five great grandchildren; four step great grandchildren; one brother, Donald (Lee) McCannon of Burlington; and one sister, Sandra McCannon of West Burlington. He was preceded in death by his parents; four brothers, Forrest, Walter Jr., Lloyd and Harvey (Gene); one sister, Margaret Strauss; and one grandson, David Michael. The memorial funeral service for Mr. McCannon will be 2 p.m. Monday, June 11th, in Lunning Chapel. The Rev. Randall Gearhart will officiate. Inurnment will be at a later date in Aspen Grove Cemetery. According to Mr. McCannon's wishes cremation has been accorded.
