Mr. Clifford "Mac" Junior McFarland, 87, of Mediapolis died at 12:10 a.m. Thursday, September 15, 2016, at Prairie Ridge Care and Rehab.
Born June 19, 1929 in Centerville, he was the son of Clifford J. and Angeline M. (Kunda) McFarland. His companion of many years, Darlene Branchfield, preceded him in death on February 28, 2010.
Mr. McFarland was a graduate of Mystic, Iowa High School. He was an Air Force Korean veteran stationed in Florida.
Mr. McFarland worked in production at J.I. Case Co., retiring in 1990. He worked for Pinkerton Security in his retirement. He was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church of Mediapolis, Moose Lodge #579 of Burlington and American Legion of Mediapolis. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, guns, target shooting, and was a ham radio operator.
Survivors include one son, Cliff (Susie) McFarland of Carroll; three step sons, Mark (Pam) Branchfield of Oakville and Russell (Maggie) Kindig and Mike (Janet) Kindig both of Burlington; one step daughter, Sherry McCannon of Washington state; two grandchildren, Jason (Amanda) McFarland and Lindsey (Shawn) Pottebaum of Carroll; and four great grandchildren, Katelyn McFarland, Leah McFarland, Amie Pottebaum and Matthew Pottebaum all of Carroll.
He was preceded in death by his parents; companion, Darlene; infant twin sons; infant daughter, Sherry; one grandson, David Matthew McFarland; sister, Betty; and brother-in-law, Jack Bates.
The funeral service for Mr. McFarland will be 2 p.m. Monday, September 19th, at Lunning Chapel with the Rev. Scott Collier officiating. Interment will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery. Military rites will be conducted by the Burlington Area Veterans Honor Guard.
The family will receive friends from 12:30 p.m. Monday until the time of service.
A memorial has been established for his grandchildren's education.
