Mary Helen McCauslin Hamilton, 62, of Mount Pleasant, formerly of Burlington, died at 8:09 p.m. Saturday, June 19, 1999, at St. Luke's Methodist Hospital in CedarRapids. Born March 24, 1937, in Des Moines, she was the daughter of R. Hiram and D. Madeline Hazen Hoxie. On January 26, 1969, she married Richard McCauslin in Chicago. He died May 9, 1987. She then married Robert Hamilton on July 20, 1988, in Burlington. Mrs. Hamilton was a 1954 graduate of Roosevelt High School in Des Moines, received her bacherlor's degree from Iowa State University in 1959, and served her internship at University of Michigan Hospital. She worked as food manager at Burge Hall, University of Iowa, Iowa City for five years. She then received her master's degree from Oklahoma State University, and later worked for Kraft Foods. She moved to Burlington in January 1974, and opened the Baskin-Robbins ice cream store. She served as dietitian and department head of nutritional services at Henry County Health Center in Mount Pleasant for 19 years, retiring December 31, 1997. She was a member and president of the Original A Chapter of PEO of Mount Pleasant, Order of Eastern Star, First Presbyterian Church of Mount Pleasant, the American Dietetic Association, the Travelin' Tigers of NCHA, and Family Campers and RVers. Survivors include her husband; three sons, Richard, Patrick, and Sean McCauslin, all of Quincy, Ill; one stepson, Steve Hamilton of Jefferson City, MO; 11 grandchildren and step-grandchildren; one step-great-grandchild; one brother, Robert Hoxie of Burlington; one sister, Linda Reeder of Grafton, Wis.; and several nieces and nephews. Besides her first husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, and one sister who died at birth. Visitation will begin at 8 a.m. today in Lunning Chapel, where the family will receive friends from 6:30 to 8 p.m. The funeral for Mrs. Hamilton will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday in Lunning Chapel, with the Rev. David Mixon officiating. Burial will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery. A memorial has been established for the PEO Sisterhood.
