Alberta B. McCarty, 86, formerly of Sperry and Mediapolis, died Sunday, April 13, 2008, at Great River Medical Center-Klein Unit in Burlington. Born November 22, 1921, in Burlington, she was the daughter of Charles O. and Florence Scheu Hendrickson. On September 24, 1949, she married Arthur W. McCarty in Burlington. He died December 8, 1983. Mrs. McCarty wrote a column for the Mediapolis New Era and the Mediapolis News and was a contributor for KBUR's "Buggy Ride" for many years. She worked at Iowa Army Ammunition Plant in Middletown and Mississippi Valley Savings Bank in Burlington. She was a graduate of Burlington High School. She was a member of First United Church of Christ in Burlington, Mediapolis American Legion Auxiliary and the Willing Workers Club. Survivors include two sons, Larry McCarty of Cornville, Ariz., and Michael McCarty of Moline, Ill.; four grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; eight great-great-grandchildren; and one sister, Shirley Schieffer of Burlington. Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents and one great-grandchild. Visitation will be from 1 to 6 p.m. Wednesday at Hagele and Honts Funeral Home in Mediapolis, where the family will receive friends from 4 to 6 p.m. The funeral for Mrs. McCarty will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at Hagele and Honts Funeral Home, with the Rev. JudyAnn Morse officiating. Burial will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery. A memorial has been established for the Mediapolis Community Ambulance Service
