Richard E. "Dick" Barngrover, 83, of Burlington, died at 5:55 PM, Tuesday, March 29, 2005, at the Great River Medical Center in West Burlington Born April 24, 1921, in Burlington, he was the son of Coleman D. and Inez M. Fimmel Barngrover. On September 4, 1949, he married Mary Louise Tiemeyer at the First United Church of Christ in Burlington. Mr. Barngrover had a partnership with his parents and was the owner and operator of Barngrover & Son Glass Company in downtown Burlington. He retired in 1980. He was a 1939 graduate of Burlington High School and attended Burlington Junior College. He was in the U.S. Navy during WWII serving in the Sea Bee's in the South Pacific. He was a member of First United Church of Christ, having served as President of the church consistory. He was an over 50 year member of Des Moines Blue Masonic Lodge #1, Scottish Rite, KAABA Shrine, a past member of Rotary and Jaycees, Carthage Lake Club, Little League Association, and Boy Scouts of America. He loved fishing and traveling. Survivors include his wife, Mary; one son, Lyle L. Barngrover of Jacksonville, FL; two daughters, Janice A. Berrong of Burlington, and Amy S. Barngrover of St. Louis, MO; four grandchildren; one step-granddaughter; seven great-grandchildren; one niece and one nephew. He was preceded in death by his parents. Visitation will begin after 8:00 AM Friday, April 1, at the Hass-Thielen Funeral Home until 7:00 PM. The family will receive friends from 9:30 AM until 10:30 AM Saturday at the First United Church of Christ. The Funeral Service for Mr. Barngrover will be 10:30 AM Saturday, April 2, at First United Church of Christ with Pastor Judy Ann Morse officiating. Interment will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery. A memorial has been established for the church.
