Betty Rae McCampbell, 67, of Burlington, died Tuesday, April 28, 2009, at University of Iowa Hospital and Clinics in Iowa City. Born October 25, 1941, in Rocky Mount, N. C., she was the daughter of Evan Reed and Mary Grant. On June 13, 1963, she married PFC McCampbell in Scranton, PA. He preceded her in death in 1991. Mrs. McCampbell and her husband co-founded Hope Temple Christian Church. Known as "prayer warrior", she often got calls in the middle of the night requesting prayer. In 1988, she was named the Iowa Christian Woman of the Year. She was an active member of New Fellowship Christian Church, where she was an honorary trustee. She enjoyed being involved with her grand- children's activities. Survivors include six children, Mary Jo McCampbell, Michael McCampbell, Tracy McCampbell, the Rev. Shane McCampbell, and Melenda McCampbell, all of Burlington, and the Rev. Major James Pleasant of El Paso, Texas; 18 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; one sister, Frankie Allen; nieces; and nephews. Besides her husband she was preceded in death by her parents, one sister, and one daughter. There will be no formal visitation. The funeral for Mrs. McCampbell will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Trinity Lutheran Church, with the Revs. Shane McCampbell and James Pleasant officiating. Burial will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery. A memorial has been established.
