Maretta "Retta" McCahan, 106, died Monday, August 2, 2010, at Great River Medical Center-Klein Center in Burlington. Born March 21, 1904, in Kingston, she was the daughter of Fred and Ida Hinson Rilemann. On October 20, 1937, she married Walter Harold McCahan in Burlington. He died January 1, 1975. Ms. McCahan was a homemaker. She worked at J.I. Case Co., as a Huron School lunch cook, and worked in production at Iowa Army Ammunition Plant in Middletown. She was a member of Bethany Lutheran Church. She enjoyed the outdoors, vegetable gardening, flowers, sewing, quilting, and puzzles. Survivors include one daughter, Goldeen Wirt of Denmark; six grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; seven great-great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews. Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by one grandchild, her parents, two sisters, and two brothers. Visitation will be from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Prugh's Chapel in Burlington, where the family will receive friends from noon to 1 p.m. Thursday. The funeral for Mrs. McCahan will be at 1 p.m. Thursday at Prugh's Chapel, with the Rev. Frank Beaty officiating. Burial will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery in Burlington. A memorial has been established.
