Katharina "Katie" Mauer, 82, of Mediapolis, formerly of Burlington, Minneapolis and Rochester, Minn., and Bloomfield Hills, Mich., died Monday July 9, 2007, at Prairie Ridge Care and Rehab Center in Mediapolis. Born March 21, 1925, in Stari Sivac, Yugoslavia, she was the daughter of Joseph E. and Margaret Frick Mauer. Ms. Mauer trained as a seamstress in Munich, Germany. She was a supervisor at National Research Bureau for 26 years and operated the nursery at Messiah Lutheran Church for 18 years. She was of the Protestant faith. She enjoyed crocheting, gardening, sewing and cooking, with bread baking being her claim to fame. Survivors include three grand- children, one brother; Richard Mauer of Burlington, nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, one son, one brother and one sister. Friends may call from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. Thursday in Lunning Chapel where the family will receive friends for one hour prior to the service on Friday. The funeral for Ms. Mauer will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday in Lunning Chapel, with the Rev. Donald Hoomstra officiating. Interment will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery. A memorial has been established for Messiah Lutheran Church.
