Obituary
Elmer John Barnes, 66, of 822 Linden, died at Mercy hospital Thursday at 9:10 am. He had been in failing health for several years and was admitted to the hospital last Tuesday.
He was born in Missouri, Feb. 1, 1890, and came to Burlington 50 years ago. He married Maude Hanson in Burlington Jan 20, 1914.
He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church. For 45 years he had served as stationary engineer at the Burlington Basket Co., retiring in 1955.
Surviving are his wife; four children, James Barnes, Sperry, Donald R. Barnes, Belmont, Calif., Mrs. Betty Retterath, Lidgerwood, N. Dak., and Mrs. Doris Kulp, Burlington; also 10 grandchildren.
Services will be held Sunday at 2 pm in Prugh’s chapel. The Rev. G.A. Saathoff will officiate, Burial will be in Aspen Grove cemetery.
