Obituary

Mrs. Maude Barnes, 89, Elm View Care Center, died there at 5:40 pm Thursday, May 6.
She was born May 18, 1892, at Aurora, Neb., to Nicklas and Christine Carlson Hanson. Her father was an immigrant from Denmark and her mother, from Sweden. She married the late Elmer J. Barnes Jan. 20, 1914, in Burlington.
She was a practical nurse, a school cook, a member of Trinity Lutheran Church and its Women’s Circle, and of the Golden Oaks.
Surviving: two sons, Donald, Belmont, Calif., and James, Burlington; two daughters, Betty Retterath, Lidgerwood, N.D., and Doris Kulp, Burlington; brother Russell Hanson, Downey, Calif.; five sisters, Etta Mahannah, Prescott, Ariz., Pearl Peel, Argyle, and Effie Brueck, Ruth Juhl and Sophie Thomson, all of Burlington; 11 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.
Funeral: 1:30 pm, Saturday at Trinity Lutheran Church, the Rev. Alvin Jenkins; Aspen Grove Cemetery. A memorial to Trinity Lutheran Church has been established at Giles-Elliott Funeral Home.
