Ralph Oscar Mathys, 86, of West Burlington, died at 12:06 AM Tuesday, December 30, 2014, at the Great River Klein Center in West Burlington.
Born August 4, 1928, in Dow City, IA. On August 22, 1946, he married Bernice Catherine Miller in Keokuk.
Ralph worked at Gustafson's Dairy Farm and then worked for Prudential Insurance Company, were he had an office in downtown Burlington. He retired from Prudential in 1983.
He was a 1945 graduate of Dow City High School.
He was a member of First United Methodist Church and the United Methodist Abraham Men's Group. He enjoyed playing cards, going to auctions, and doing puzzles. He loved traveling in his motor home in which he traveled to every state in the U.S. besides Alaska. He has also traveled to 11 countries including, Austria, Israel, Czechoslovakia, England, Ireland, Scotland, and Denmark,
Survivors include wife, Bernice Catherine Mathys of West Burlington; one sister, Marcella Hess of Tucson, AZ; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, and one sister.
Visitation will be from 12:30 PM until 1:30 PM with the family to receive friends from 12:30 PM until 1:30 PM Friday, January 2, 2015, at Thielen Funeral Home.
The funeral service for Mr. Mathys will be 1:30 PM Friday, January 2, 2015, at Thielen Funeral Home with Reverend Melisa Bracht-Wagner officiating. Burial will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery. A time of food and fellowship will be held in the community room at Thielen Funeral Home at 12:00 PM prior to the family visitation.
A memorial has been established for First United Methodist Church.
