Bernice Catherine Mathys, 86, of West Burlington, died at 9:05 AM Sunday, January 25, 2015, at the Great River Klein Center in West Burlington.
Born February 5, 1928, in Burlington, she was the daughter of Benjamin and Edith E. Glasgow Miller. On August 22, 1946, she married Ralph Oscar Mathys in Keokuk, IA. He died December 30, 2014.
She was a homemaker, also working at Sheaffer Pen Company, Camp's Laundry and did catering.
She was a member of First United Methodist Chruch, Sarah Circle and King's Daughters. She enjoyed playing cards, going to auctions, antique dishes, and puzzles. She loved traveling with her husband in their motorhome. Ralph and Bernice have traveled to all states except for Alaska along with traveling to 11 countries, including Austria, Israel, Czechoslovakia, England, Ireland, Scotland, and Denmark.
Survivors include four sisters, Esther Johnston of Orange Valley, CA, Delores George of Eagle Bend, MN, Wilma Schmidt of Leander, TX, and Shirley Price of Burlington; and several nieces and nephews.
Besides her husband she was preceded in death by her parents and one brother.
Visitation will be from 12:00 PM until 1:00 PM with the family to receive friends from 12:00 PM until 1:00 PM Wednesday, January 28, 2015, at Thielen Funeral Home.
The funeral service for Mrs. Mathys will be 1:00 PM Wednesday, January 28, 2015, at Thielen Funeral Home with Reverend Melisa Bracht-Wagner officiating. Burial will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery.
