Obituary
Kenneth Lawrence Mason, 78, of Fort Madison, died Saturday, March 25, 2006, at Keokuk area Hospital in Keokuk. Born June 27, 1927, in Burlington, he was the son of Chester and Pauline Mack Mason. On February 19, 1949, he married Betty Jean Johnson at St. Mary's Church in West Burlington. Mr. Mason worked as an engineer for Sheafer Pen Company for 42 years, retiring in 1989. He was a 1945 graduate of Burlington High School, and received an Associate Degree from Burlington Junior College in 1947. He served on the Ft. Madison City Council for 4 years. He was a Junior Achievement Advisor and served on the Planning and Zoning Board. He was active in Pony League Baseball. Mr. Mason was a precinct election official. He was a member of the Burlington Music Association. His hobbies were golfing, yard sales, holiday lighting, traveling and his musical record collection. Survivors include his wife of Ft. Madison, IA; four daughters, Cristine McDonnell of Reno, NV, Sandra (John) Owen of Wever, IA, Dianne (Scott) Pickford of Sterling, IL, and Paula (George) Davey of Des Moines, IA; five grandchildren; two brothers, Leroy Mason of Baraboo, WI, and Richard Mason of FL; one sister, Marian Long of Burlington, IA. Mr. Mason was preceded in death by his parents, one grandson and one sister. A memorial graveside service will be held at Aspen Grove Cemetery Tuesday, May 30, 2006, at 11:00 a.m. King-Lynk Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements. A memorial has been established for Paws Animal Shelter, and contributions can be mailed to the family at #3 Joan Court in Fort Madison, IA 52627.
