Obituary

Esther Marie Martindale, 92, of Ottumwa, formerly of Burlington, died at 10:55 p.m. Tuesday, April 13, 1999, at Ridgewood Care Center in Ottumwa. Born November 9, 1906, in Wilton Junction, she was the daughter of William and Marie Wiegmann Mohr. On December 2, 1938, she married Leo C. Martindale in Kahoka, MO. He died January 23, 1985. Mrs. Martindale graduated from Winfield High School in Winfield, and was a homemaker. During elections she worked at the polls. She was a member of Oak Street Baptist Church in Burlington. Survivors include one son, Andy Martindale of Ottumwa; daughter-in-law Roberta L. Martindale of Burlington; six grandsons, Chad Martindale of Ames, Curtis and Craig Martindale, both of Ottumwa, Rev. Richard Martindale of Sanford, N.C., J. P. (Beth) Martindale of Ankeny, and David Martindale of Burlington; and one brother, Irwin Mohr of Mount Pleasant. Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, one son, one brother, and one sister. Visitation will be from noon until 8:30 p.m. today in Lunning Chapel, where the family will receive friends from 7 until 8:30 p.m. The funeral for Mrs. Martindale will be at 1 p.m. Friday at Oak Street Baptist Church, with the Revs. Ron Presley and Richard Martindale officiating. Burial will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery, Burlington. Memorials have been established to Oak Street Baptist Church or Ridgewood Care Center.
