Robert Wesley Tillmann, 75, of Burlington, formerly of Wapello, died Friday, March 26, 2010, at Great River Medical Center Klein Center in Burlington. Born April 22, 1934, in Burlington, he was the son of Herbert W. and Minnie Mae Meyerholz Tillmann. On May 21, 1956, he married Mary Lou Hammon in Wapello. They later divorced. On December 28, 1995, he married Frances Marie McKeown in Burlington. Mr. Tillmann served in the U.S. Army for two years, and the Army Reserves for four years. He worked at Tillmann Motor Co., the family owned dealership, and the National Guardian Life Insurance Co., out of Madison, Wis., for 37 years, retiring in 1997. He won several awards, including the First L. J. Larson Award of Excellence in sales and service of life insurance in 1990. He graduated from Wapello High School in 1952 and attended Cornell College in Mount Vernon. He was a member of First United Methodist Church in Burlington, a past master and member of the Wapello Masonic Lodge No. 5, and a past worthy patron of the Wapello O.E.S. No. 257. He was also a member of Optimists Club in Burlington, Stephens Ministry, Junior Chamber and Chamber of Commerce in Wapello, and the Ford 300 to 500 Club. Survivors include his wife; three sons, Randy Tillmann of Wapello, Russell Tillmann of Mount Vernon, Wash., and Robert Tillmann of Columbia, S.C.; one daughter Carol Kinghorn of Shenandoah; nine grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers. Visitation will be from 2 to 8 p.m. Monday at Dudgeon-McCulley Funeral Home in Wapello, where there will be Masonic Rites at 6 p.m., with family receiving friends until 8 p.m. Family also will receive friends from 10 to 11 a.m. Tuesday at Grace United Methodist Church in Burlington. The funeral for Mr. Tillmann will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Grace United Methodist Church in Burlington, with the Revs. Michael Orthel and Debra Engelke of First United Methodist Church officiating. A lunch will immediately follow. Burial will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery. A memorial has been established for First United Methodist Church Building Fund.
