Sarah "Sally" Elizabeth Martin, 72, of Burlington, died at 3:43 p.m. Wednesday, January 7, 2009, at Great River Medical Center in West Burlington. Born February 4, 1936, in Houston, Missouri, she was the daughter of Murrill E. and Sarah Ruby Stewart Martin. In 1955 she married Jimmy Ray Gearhart. In April of 1973 she married Craig McKelvey. They divorced in 1993. Ms. Martin was a 1954 graduate of Burlington High School and attended Burlington Junior College. She worked at Sylvania, Yetter-Reif Oil, and Burlington Public Library. Ms. Martin was of the Methodist faith. She enjoyed reading and was an avid Hawkeye and Cub fan. Survivors include one son, Jeff (Brenda) Gearhart of Burlington; one daughter, Julie (Ron) Roskam of North Liberty; one stepson, Scott McKelvey of Wichita, Kansas; two stepdaughters, Christine McKelvey of Kirkwood, Missouri, and Rebecca (Dan) Petersen of Sperry; three grandchildren, Aubrey (Kent) Ward of Des Moines, Tyler Roskam of North Liberty, and Ellen Gearhart of Burlington; two step-grandchildren, Alyssa Petersen, and Sara Petersen; and one sister, Virginia (Jim) Garnjobst of Burlington. Her parents; one brother, Thomas R. Martin; and one nephew, Michael Martin, preceded her in death.
