Oral "Curly" Emory Martin, 87, of West Burlington died at 7:15 a.m. Wednesday, May 3, 2006 at Great River Medical Center Hospice Room. Born January 23, 1919 in Winchester, Illinois, he was the son of Lyle W. and Tessie A. Woosley Martin. On September 14, 1939 he married Ethel Louise Walker in Monticello, Missouri. Mr. Martin was a 1937 graduate of Meredosia High School in Meredosia, Illinois. He was a World War II Army veteran serving with the 717th Tank Battalion as a Staff Sergeant. He worked for 21 ½ years at Iowa Army Ammunition Plant in Middletown in Quality Assurance, retiring in 1983. He enjoyed fishing and golfing, cross word puzzles, games, cards and watching the Cubs and Cardinals baseball games on TV. He was of the protestant faith. Survivors include his wife, Ethel Martin of West Burlington; two sons, James Oral Martin of Burlington and Charles Harvey Martin of Bothel, Washington; eight grandchildren; eleven great grandchildren; and one sister, Virginia Arnold of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma His parents, two brothers, and one sister preceded him in death. A memorial has been established for Great River Home Health Care and Hospice.
