Fallie H. "Pie" Barnes, 81, of New London, died Saturday, Feb. 17, 2007, at Henry County Health Center in Mount Pleasant. Born Aug. 19, 1925, in Ventura, Calif., he was the son of Fallie H. and Esther M. Valencia Barnes Sr. On Sept. 17, 1949, he married Marjorie F. Cox in Burlington. She died Aug. 20, 1999. Mr. Barnes was a powerhouse engineer at IAAP for 37 years, retiring in 1989. He was a 1943 graduate of Ventura High School. He was a Navy veteran of World War II who served in the South Pacific. He was a member of SS. Mary and Patrick Catholic Church in West Burlington, New London VFW Post 7641 and Danville AF and AM Lodge 48. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and traveling. He went to flea markets with his wife for 10 years after retirement. The couple were foster parents to 53 children during their lifetime. Survivors include one sister-in-law. Donna Homburg of Keosauqua; and nieces and nephews. Besides his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents and one adopted son. Friends may call from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. today at Elliott Chapel in New London, where the family will receive friends from 1 to 2 p.m. According to his wishes, Mr. Barnes has been cremated. The memorial service for Mr. Barnes will be at 2 p.m. today at Elliott Chapel with the Rev. Gerald Stouvenel officiating. Military rites will be by the New London VFW Post 7641 in the chapel. Inurnment will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery. A memorial has been established for SS. Mary and Patrick Catholic Church.
