Obituary

Betty Jane Marr, 89, of Webster Groves, Mo., and formerly of Burlington, died at 4:50 p.m. Friday, Nov. 4, 2011, at Lutheran Convalescent Home in Webster Groves. Born Jan. 20, 1922, in Cedar Rapids, she was the daughter of Irwin Anthony and Esther Louise Hibnes Noblett. On Sept. 25, 1945, she married John Robert Marr in Des Moines. He died Feb. 22, 1997. Mrs. Marr was a secretary for Flint Hills Elementary School for 17 years, until her retirement in 1974. She moved to the Burlington area in 1950, then to Amarillo, Texas, in 1974. She returned to Burlington in 1993, and then moved to the St. Louis area in 1999 to be near her daughter. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Burlington and the American Legion Auxiliary. She enjoyed doing embroidery and working on her family's genealogy. Survivors include one son, John William Marr of Bolingbrook, Ill.; one daughter, Nancy Riley of St. Louis; six grandchildren; one great-grandson; two sisters, Joy Morriss of Kerrville, Texas, and Susan Goltry of Huntley, Ill.; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband. Visitation with family will be from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. Tuesday in Lunning Chapel. The funeral service for Mrs. Marr will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday in Lunning Chapel, with the Rev. Michael Orthel officiating. Burial will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery. Memorials have been established for First United Methodist Church in Burlington or the Alzheimer's Association.
