Shirley Irene Mark, 83, of Burlington, died at 11:20 a.m. Saturday, August 22, 2009, at Great River Hospice Center, West Burlington. She had suffered a stroke and was involved in a traffic accident the previous Saturday, sustaining multiple injuries. Born June 30, 1926, in Ayrshire, she was the daughter of Frank and Olive L. Whirry Lewis. On October 3, 1948, she married Walden Mark, Jr. of Sperry. Mrs. Mark worked at Pryor, Riley, Jones and Walsh Law Offices for more than 25 years. She graduated from Burlington High School in 1943, and was active with the reunion committee. Shirley was an active member of the community. She was active in Senior Citizens, was a member of the Sperry Methodist Church, and a former member of the First Congregational Church in Burlington where she was a member of the choir and the Margaret Narin Guild. She is survived by three children, Christine Ferrel of Burlington, Carol Mark of Colorado Springs, Colo., and Wally Mark of Colorado Springs; six grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; one great-great grandchild; two brothers, Richard Lewis and Frank Lewis; one sister, Jacquie Bellamy; many nieces and nephews; and her dearest friend, Pauline Kester. She was preceded in death by her husband and parents. There will be no visitation. The memorial service for Mrs. Mark will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at United Methodist Church in Sperry, with a light lunch to follow.
