Mr. Alfred Leroy Mark, 82, of Burlington, died at 8:40 a.m. Friday, June 25, 2010, at Burlington Care Center. Born August 12, 1927, in Prairie Grove, he was the son of Walden Baker and Mary Held Mark. On October 7, 1949, he married Naomi "Dede" Dickson in Burlington. Mr. Mark was a Sperry High School graduate. He was a World War II Navy veteran. Mr. Mark was an electrician. He first worked at Bartell's, then owned and operated his own business, Burlington Electric Motors. After selling his business, he then worked for Murray Iron Works for five years, and Burlington Northern. Mr. Mark was a member of SS John and Paul Catholic Church, Knights of Colubus where he served as a former Deputy Grand Knight, Eagles, and V.F.W. He was an avid golfer and bowler, and also enjoyed hunting and fishing. Survivors include his wife Naomi "Dede" Mark of Burlington; two sons, Tom (Barb) Mark of Washington, Illinois, and Steve Mark of Burlington; two daughters, Nancy (Jack) Jackson of Colorado Springs, Colorado, and Michelle (Jamie) Lyons of Matoaka, West Virginia; eleven grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and one sister, Betty (Bob) Carlson of Mt. Pleasant. His parents; two brothers, Walden, Jr. and Robert; sister, Mary; and one great-grandchild preceded him in death. Friends may call from noon until 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, June 29th, in Lunning Chapel. A Christian Wake Service will be held at 5:00 p.m. Tuesday evening, followed by family receiving friends until 8:00 p.m. The Mass of Christian burial for Mr. Mark will be held at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, June 30th, in St. John the Baptist Catholic Church. The Rev. Bruce DeRammelaere will be the celebrant. The Des Moines County Resurrection Choir will provide the music. Interment will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery. The Burlington Area Veterans Honor Guard will conduct Military Rites. Memorials have been established for SS John and Paul Catholic Church and St. Vincent DePaul Food Pantry.
