Donald Alvin Malcom, 82, of Burlington, died at 2:20 p.m. Tuesday, November 17, 2009, at Great River Medical Center in West Burlington. Born February 2, 1927, in Oakville, he was the son of Raymond D. and Martha "Mattie" Johnson Malcom. On August 9, 1950, he married Marilyn Danover in Wapello. Mr. Malcom worked for 20 years in the meter department of Iowa Southern Utilities, retiring in 1989. He also worked at Merchant Wholesale. He was a 1945 graduate of Oakville High School. He was a 48-year member of First Presbyterian Church in Burlington, where he served as an elder and deacon. He was a 40-plus year member of Fraternal Order of the Eagles Burlington Aerie 150. He was a Chicago Cubs fan. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, golfing, bowling, and the outdoors. Survivors include his wife; one daughter, Joyce Heckenberg of Burlington; one son, Mark Malcom of West Point, Utah; four grand- children; one brother, Wayne Malcom of Camanche; one sister, Norma Perron of Burlington; nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, three sisters, and two brothers. Visitation will be from noon to 7 p.m. today at Hass-Thielen Funeral Home in Burlington, where the family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. The funeral for Mr. Malcom will be at 11 a.m. Friday at First Presbyterian Church, with the Rev. Debra L. Miller-Kinney officiating. The body will be cremated after the funeral. Burial will be at a later date in Aspen Grove Cemetery. A memorial has been established.
