Obituary
Richard "Doc" Mahalic, 77, of Burlington, died at 11:53 p.m. Tuesday, November 2, 2010, at his home. Born June 23, 1933, in Chariton, he was the son of George and Mary Ruth Thompson Mahalic. On December 20, 1980, he married Dollie Rohmer in Fort Madison. Mr. Mahalic worked as an electric installer for Western Electric, a division of AT&T, retiring in 1983. He graduated from Burlington High School. He served in the Army during the Korean War. He was of the Christian faith. He served as president of an amateur ham radio club, and was a member of CWA Union, Eagles, and Veterans of Foreign Wars. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and yard work. Survivors include his wife; one daughter, Sharon Whisenant of Burlington; one son, Robert Mahalic; one stepdaughter, Debra Rollins of Wake Forest, N.C.; grandchildren, one sister, Marilyn Schnedler of Burlington; one brother, William Mahalic of Wichita, Kan.; nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by one grandchild and his parents. No visitation is planned. The body has been cremated. The graveside service for Mr. Mahalic will be at 10 a.m. Monday in Aspen Grove Cemetery in Burlington, with the Rev. Trevor Davis officiating. A memorial has been established. Lunning Chapel in Burlington is in charge of arrangements.
