Richard Conrad Maass, 87, of Burlington, died at 8:57 a.m. Monday, April 25, 2011, at his home. Born April 27, 1923, in Roscoe, he was the son of Herman Conrad and Margarite Viola Schwartz Maass. On November 17, 1945, he married Emma Loretta Dickson in Burlington. Mr. Maass worked 42 years as a maintenance supervisor for Iowa Department of Transportation. He retired in April 1985. He graduated from Yarmouth High School. He was a past member of Iowa State Guard. He was a member of Bethany Lutheran Church. He was a member and served as past president of the Eagles. He enjoyed golfing, woodworking, bowling, roller skating, hunting, mushroom hunting, and kids. Survivors include his wife; one brother, Herman Maass of Burlington; nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, four sisters, and two brothers, one in infancy. Visitation will be from noon to 7 p.m. today at Lunning Chapel in Burlington, where family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. The funeral for Mr. Maass will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Lunning Chapel, with the Rev. Bruce DeRammelaere officiating. Burial will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery in Burlington. Memorials have been established for Eagles Charities and Bethany Lutheran Church.
